Common Basil is a gorgeous little evergreen herb with endless uses in the garden and home. Growing up to 500 mm tall at her maximum height, the cheery bright green foliage with tooth edged leaves releases a gorgeous fragrance and is prized for medicinal and cooking use. The dainty little white flowers with orange stamens grow on happy little stalks, although to encourage robost foliage production, pick off the flower stems as they appear.
Basil is one of the most popular garden herbs for good reason... it has countless uses including cooking, herb gardens and even medicinal applications. Many home gardeners grow their herbs indoors, and Basil is quite suited to this so long as it is on a sunny windowsill.
Countless cultures have utilised basil through their history, even through their religious practices. Many people recommend Basil as a companion plant for your tomato plants, saying it deters pests and improves tomato flavour (why not make like the Italians do?).
Sensitive to frost. Well drained soils. Full sun, adapts to part shade. If indoors, put in a bright, sunny position.
