Pandanus tectorius, or the Screw Pine as it can be more commonly called, is an iconic evergreen tropical palm with a very unique appearance. The 'Hala fruit' is edible and the taste can be compared to sugarcane.
The unique growth habit includes attractive prop roots and grows 5 - 14 metres in height. It is ideal for sandy soils, waterlogged areas and thrives in coastal regions. Hardy in tropical or sub-tropical climates where frost is not a problem, it is tolerant of exposed, coastal areas. Perfect for growth as a feature or ornamental, coastal settings, tropical gardens, or sandy, wet soils.
Hardy to wind, salt and drought. Sensitive to frost. Most well drained soils. Tolerates sandy or wet environments. Full sun.
